Automotive distributors, repair networks, dealerships, and fleet operators often have several sourcing options for the same vehicle component.
The buyer may be offered a genuine part in vehicle-brand packaging, an OEM or OE-equivalent component, a branded aftermarket alternative, or an unverified product with limited documentation.
These categories should not be judged by price alone. The right purchasing decision depends on the application, safety implications, supplier traceability, technical documentation, warranty requirements, and total cost of ownership.

Understanding the Main Product Categories
Terminology can vary between markets and suppliers. Buyers should therefore define the required category in the contract instead of relying only on labels such as “original” or “OEM quality.”
Genuine Parts
Sold through authorized supply chains. Carry vehicle brand name and packaging. Preferred for brand authorization or dealer warranty support.
OEM or OE Parts
Original Equipment Manufacturer. Components used in original vehicle production, often sold under the supplier's own brand.
Aftermarket Parts
Manufactured for replacement or service use outside the vehicle manufacturer’s branded distribution system.
Genuine Parts: Genuine parts are sold through the vehicle manufacturer’s authorized supply chain and normally carry the vehicle brand’s name and packaging. Verify the Exact Vehicle Application
A visual match is not enough. Confirm compatibility using all available information:

- Technical drawings and mounting details
Small differences between regional or model-year variants can make a part unsuitable even when the product looks identical. The purchase agreement should state how compatibility is defined and who is responsible when catalog information is incorrect.
Confirm the Supplier’s Position in the Supply Chain
Determine whether the seller is: The manufacturer, an authorized distributor, a master wholesaler, an independent broker, or a reseller purchasing through other intermediaries. Ask for evidence of authorization when branded products are offered.
